Walmart Ups the Ante on Prescription Delivery
Walmart is adding refrigerated and reconstituted medications to its roster of products available for same-day delivery across the country. According to Walmart, it is now the first retailer to offer those prescriptions alongside groceries in a single online order. Pharmacy customers can choose Same-Day Scheduled, On-Demand or Express delivery, and also access delivery tracking. Read more.
Amazon Heading for Showdown With New York City Lawmakers Over Drivers
Amazon’s system of using subcontractors for package delivery is under fire in New York City, where a new bill could require the company to directly hire its drivers. The bill would end Amazon’s use of “Delivery Service Partners,” or DSPs, small companies that handle last-mile deliveries under Amazon’s brand. The proposal would shift responsibility to Amazon by making the company, not its subcontractors, accountable for its drivers and last-mile facilities. Read more.
Trump Levies 25% Tariff on Heavy-Duty Truck Imports, Raising Fleet Costs
President Donald Trump announced a wave of tariffs on Thursday, including a 25% duty on all heavy-duty trucks made outside the U.S. The 25% tariff will take effect October 1 and will likely raise the cost of most heavy-duty trucks over time. Trump also announced a potentially painful 50% tariff on many household goods, a 30% tariff on all upholstered furniture, and a 100% tariff on pharmaceutical products if the product’s company is not building a plant in the U.S. Read more.
